Cardinal Mercier, Pastorals, Letters, Allocutions 1914-1917 Patriotism and Endurance, Annex III, A list of Belgian communities which have suffered pillage, incendiarism, imprisonment or massacre of part of their population and/or sacrileges of their churchs (Eine Liste belgischer Gemeinden, die unter Plünderungen, Brandstiftung, Verhaftungen und Massaker an einem Teil ihrer Bevölkerung und/oder unter Schändigungen ihrer Kirchen gelitten haben)
We know, and we affirm, that the German army gave itself up in Belgium, in a hundred different places, to pillage, to incendiarism, imprisonments, massacres, and sacrileges, contrary to all justice and to every sentiment of humanity.
