Trade :
(p.4) German external trade in 1907 amounted to 15,466 million Mark, of which
8.597 million Mark fell on exports, 6,869 million Mark on imports. In 1904 the
entire external trade of the German Reich amounted to 11,577 million Mark.

is shown in the following statistical table

The data for exports and imports for the Kiautschou
protectorate are listed on page 25 under the title "trade and
transportation"
merchant fleet : (p.5) According to
"Nautikus" 1907, on April 1st 1907 936 steamers over 1000 tons sailed
under German flag, and 176 sailboats..
Navy : The Imperial navy,
according to Weyer "Taschenbuch 1908" disposed on January 1st 1908
over finished and currently constructed ships : 22 ships-of-the-line (4 outdated
ones not counted, 6 under construction), 8 coastal ironclad vessels, 8 battle
cruisers, 27 protected cruisers, 11 unprotected cruisers, 9 gunboats, c. 20
school ships unfit for battle, 11 special ships, 2 port ships and 1 submarine.
The combined crew numbers 46,913 men.

(1) The trade statistics for Togo 1906 lists
the imports without the customs tariffs paid; the trade statistics for earler
years, however, includes those tariffs.
(2) The figures of all tables for the
protectorate of Deutsch-Ostafrika for 1904 and 1905 include only the private
goods imported and exported, not those imported resp. exported by the
government; the figures for 1906 contain the latter as well.
(3) We have continuing, comparable figures
only for the Bismarck-Archipelago.
(4) The figures until 1902 inclusive pertain
to the fiscal year, for the years since 1903 on the calendar year.
(5) The figures pertain to the calendar year.
(6) The figures for the years prior to 1902
pertain to the fiscal year.
(7) The figures for 1900 and 1901 pertain to
the fiscal year, the others to
the calendar year.
(8) The small trade of the American Samoa
Islands is included.
