In
total at the beginning of 1908 in Germany's African colonies only a little over
1500 km railway lines were in service. How far we are behind other European
colonial peoples is shown by the following statistical table, taken from the
book : "Wie erschliessen wir unsere Kolonien ?" (How do we develop our
colonies ?) written for the German Colonial Society by Prof.Dr. engineer Blum
and Government architect Giese (state of 1907) (Berlin, Dietrich Reimer.
