Speech held by Kaiser Wilhelm II. on the Occasion of the Opening of a Legislative Period, in the Reichstag, November 19th 1907 - Extract relating to the development in the colonies

" ... The severe crisis, which was caused in the respective protectorates by the rebellion of the natives in Southwest and East Africa, has been overcome. The rebellion in East Africa has been completely subdued. In Southwest Africa the hostile tribes, with the exception of minor remnants, have been defeated, so that the Schutztruppe soon can be reduced considerably.
The brave men, who in several years of hard struggle against a cunning and stubborn held up the honour of the German flag are assured of the fatherlands' gratitude .... "
