Lyndon Baines Johnson

- He was born on August 27th 1908 in central Texas, near Johnson City

- In 1927 he enrolled in Southwest Texas State Teachers´ College in San Marcos. Even though he participated actively in debate and campus politics, edited the school paper, and spent a year away from his studies teaching at schools, he managed to graduate in 312 days

- 1934: He married Claudia “Lady Bird” Taylor, they had two daughters, Lynda Bird and Luci Baines

- 1960: He was elected John F. Kennedy´s Vice President

- On November 22nd 1963, when Kennedy was assassinated, Lyndon B. Johnson became the 36th president of the United States, he was president until 1969

- His political goal was to create a “Great Society that demands an end to poverty and racial injustice.”

- Important events while he was in office: Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, Vietnam War

- He died in 1973
