After graduating from George Washington University she took a job as "inquiring photographer" for a local newspaper in Washington DC. Her path soon crossed that of senator Kennedy, which had the reputation of being the most eligible bachelor in the capital. She later became engaged to another man, John Husted, in dec. 1951. |
When they both met again, they began dating and Jackie called of her engagement John Husted. Jackie and John got married on Sept.12,, 1953 in Newport, Rhode Island. The marriage was a nationwide event. They went on their honeymoon to Acapulco, Mexico. With the marriage she had to adapt herself to the new role of wife to one of the country´s most energetic political figures. After a while being married she forced herself to turn a blind eye on John´s affair. To the role of First Lady Jacqueline brought beauty, intelligence and cultivated taste. She devoted much time and study to making the White House a museum of American history.She believed that the White House belonged to the nation and should inspire people and make Americans proud of their heritage. | ![]() |
The White House Historical Association was also established by her. Kennedy respected his wife's popularity and power, once introducing himself as "Jackie Kennedy's husband". Jackie helped John with his speeches and took charge of his wardrobe. In 1960, John Kennedy began his campaign for President of the USA, until Jackie became pregnant she joined John on many of his campaigns. 25, 1960 shortly after J.F.K.'s election Jackie gave birth to their second child. Jackie inspired, charmed, and shaped the world during the '60s as the young, style setting wife of John F. Kennedy. Some of her trademarks are the boxy jackets and pillbox hats, the three-quarter length sleeves and the sleeveless A-line. The courage during the tragedy of her husband's assassination won her admiration of the world. After her husband's death she moved to New York and got married to Aristotle Onassis some years later.
