He purchased a used officer's uniform, put it on, stopped soldiers passing by and assumed command, occupied Koepenick city hall, arrested the mayor and the treasurer, confiscated the money in the treasury, dismissed the soldiers - the scandal (1906) made it to the front page of Germany's newspapers, and forms the background of dramas and a film.
