Potocki, Alfred Count, Austrian statesman, from the Galician line Potocki-Pilawa, born in 1817, died on May 18th 1889 in Paris, son of secret councillor and Galician master courtier Count Alfred Potocki, became hereditary member of the Austrian House of Lords in 1861, was simultaneously elected into the Galician diet. From December 1868 to January 1870 he was minister of agriculture in the "burgher cabinet", became prime minister on April 15th 1870. He held negotiations with the autonomist parties; the lack of success [of these negotiations] caused his resignation (February 7th 1871). From 1875 to 1883 Potocki was stadholder of Galicia.
