Innovators in Science : Martim Behaim



MARTIN BEHAIM was born in 1459 and died in 1507. He was cartographer and navigator. A student of REGIOMONTANUS, he was appointed astronomer by King John of Portugal. Accompanied DIEGO CAM on his exploration along Africa's west coast, which reached as far as WALVISBAAI (present Namibia). In 1492 he designed the first GLOBE.
