Spanish Renaissance Artists : Domenikus el Greco



Born DOMENIKOS THEOTOKOPOULOS on the island of Crete in 1541, which was then a Venetian possession. Moved to Rome in 1570, to TOLEDO in 1577 where he settled down, known as EL GRECO (the Greek). Most of his paintings depict religious motives; the style he painted in is called MANNERISM; he is said to have founded the tradition of great Spanish painters.
