Syria within the UAR, 1958-1961



On Feb. 27th 1958 Syria and Egypt joined in the United Arab Republic, which was headed by President Gamal Abdel Nasser; he ordered all Syrian political parties, including the Baath Party, dissolved.
The UAR was dominated by Egypt; a military coup in Damascus in 1961 restored Syrian independence.
