Ottoman Kosovo 1918-1941

History of Kosovo, 1912-1918

During the First Balkan War, Serbia and Montenegro occupied the territory of modern Kosovo ana partitioned it; Montenegro anneced the northern Metohia, Serbia the remainder. The Muslim population element resented the Serb/Montenegrin annexation; some emigrated, some were forced to leave.
In 1915, both Montenegro and Serbia were occupied by the Central Powers, who attempted to enlist support among the ethnic Albanian population; now it was the ethnic Serb population element feeling pressure. Late in 1918 Kosovo came again under Serb control.
