From 1815 to 1828 and from 1845 to 1936 the later Netherlands Antilles (Curaçao,
Aruba, Bonaire, Saba, St. Eustatius and the Dutch half of
Sint Maarten) were known
as Curaçao en onderhorigheden (C. and dependencies), from 1936 to 1948 as the Gebied van Curaçao (Territory of C.). From 1828 to 1845 they formed part of Nederlands West Indië (the Dutch West Indies). In 1985 Aruba seceded to form an autonomous separate territory; in 2010 the Netherlands Antilles were dissolved, with Curaçao and Sint Maarten forming autonomous territories, while Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius opted to become integral part of the Netherlands.
