Trinidad was discovered in 1498. In 1687 Catalan Capuchin friars were charged with converting the indigenous population to christianity.
In the 18th century, Trinidad was part of Paria Province, Viceroyalty of New Granada. In 1797/1802
Spain ceded Trinidad to Britain. In 1888 the colonies of Trinidad and
