The French Congo was a remote province of the French Colonial Empire. From 1921 to 1934 the CONGO-OCEAN RAILWAY was built, from Pointe Noire to Brazzaville, heavily involving forced labour; c. 15,000 to 20,000 have died during the construction. In 1928 a revolt broke out, against abuses such as forced labour. It was suppressed.
