1910-1918 History of Central Africa Gabon
1939-1960

Gabon, 1918-1939

The end of World War I had affected Gabon a little. Neighbouring Kamerun, i.e. most of it, now became a French mandate and joined French Equatorial Africa as it's 5th province. ALBERT SCHWEITZER's loyalty to France - he was born in Alsace in 1875, thus with German nationality - meanwhile was unquestioned.
By going on concert tours around the world, medical doctor-pianist-theologian Albert Schweitzer collected funds for his jungle hospital at Lambarene, focussing the world's attention on the French colonial province of Gabon.
