History of Central Africa 1910-1920

Oubangi-Chari, 1894-1910

In 1894, the territory of OUBANGI-CHARI (named after two rivers), was proclaimed a French colony in 1894. From here a French expedition proceeded to FASHODA in 1898. For giving up a French claim on the Nile River valley, Britain conceded a favourable border line for France's colonies in central Africa, thus establishing Oubangi-Chari's border far in the east.
In 1906, the colony was merged with CHAD; the seat of administration being FORT LAMY.
In 1910 Chad, Moyen Congo and Gabon were joined to form FRENCH EQUATORIAL AFRICA.
