Oubangi-Chari, 1939-1960



In 1940, during World War II, French Equatorial Africa (renamed French Free Africa) was the stronghold of Charles de Gaulle's Free French administration.
In 1946, Oubangi-Chari was given an assembly, French Equatorial Africa representation in the French National Assembly. In 1957, French Equatorial Africa was dissolved, and in 1960 the colony, under the name CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, became independent.
