Kazakhstan 1945-1954


Administration . The Kazakh SSR was administrated by ethnic Russians.

Demographic History . With the exception of the influx of Black Sea Greeks (1949-1950), the population increase due to deportations ended. Kazakhstan's population is estimated at 6.444 million in 1945, 7.316 million in 1953 (J. Lahmeyer).

Technology . After World War II, Kazakhstan was the testing ground for Russia's nucleare program, the first nuclear device being exploded at Semipalatinsk in 1949.
