Tajikistan 1929-1945



In 1929 the Tajik ASSR, since 1924 part of the Uzbek SSR, was elevated to a seoarate TAJIK SSR; the KHUJAND TERRITORY was annexed from Uzbekistan into Tajikistan. The capital was DUSHANBE. The COLLECTIVIZATION of farmland caused resistance.
The BASMACHI REVOLT, which centered on Tajikistan, ended in 1933.

In 1933 the population of Tajikistan was 1,332,700, that of Stalinabad (Dushanbe) 42,200, that of Leninabad 50,900.
