A Kingdom located at the entrance to the Gulf, which existed from the 10th to the 17th century. Capital Ormuz or Hormuz, located on the island by that name which gave the name to the Straits of Hormuz. Founded by Arabs and engaged in maritime trade between Mesopotamia, Arabia, Iran and India. From 1262 onward under the suzerainty of Persia (the Il-Khanate). Part of the Portuguese Seaborne Empire in Asia 1515-1622. Since 1622 to Iran; the port was moved from Hormuz to the mainland; Hormuz lost its raison d'etre. |
