France since 1990



In 1992 France signed the Maastricht Treaty; in 2002/2004 it introduced the Euro currency. In 2005 the French in a referendum rejected the EU constitution. In 2003 France openly expressed her criticism against a suggested UN invasion of Iraq, which resulted in the temporary deterioration of relations with the U.S.
In late 2005, France expected a wave of urban violence, mainly by young Frenchmen of North African descent who were frustrated with the discrimination they experience when applying for jobs, withy the usual suspect treatment by the police etc.
