History of Dauphine

Originally part of the Kingdom of Burgundy, which was absorbed by the Holy Roman Empire in 1033. In 1163 the County of Orange was elevated to an immediate principality. Origin of the House of Orange. In the late 17th and early 18th century, the Principality of Orange, being a possession of the House of Orange, was frequently occupied by the French. In 1713 France annexed Orange.
