Cispadane Confederation formed on October 16th 1796 by the merger of the territories of the Duchy of Modena
and the Romagna (Reggio, Ferrara and Bologna; hitherto part of the Papal States). Capital Reggio Emilia.
On December 26 1796 Cispadane Confederation reconstituted as Cispadane Republic. On July 9th 1797 merged with the
Transpadane Republic to form the Cisalpine Republic. W. Scott 1832 mentions the conversion of the Cispadane Confederation into a (centrally administered) Cispadane Republic having been resented in the Romagna, leading to a secession of the latter, under the name 'Republic Emilia', which on July 9th 1797 was included in the new Cisalpine Republic. |
