Açores 1815-1880

When Europe's new order was discussed at the Vienna Congress in 1813-1815, the Açores remained with Portugal.
From 1829 to 1901, coins were issued for the Açores, the Açores Real, at par with the Portuguese Real.
Around 1850, pineapples had been introduced to San Miguel. They were soon exported to Britain, the Netherlands, Germany and France.
The islands' inhabitants were poor, fishing and sailing being major industries. In 1868, the first Açores stamps were issued.
