Canary Islands, 1815-1880

The Canary Islands remained Spanish when Europe's political order was discussed at the Vienna Congress in 1813-1815. On the English market, Canarian wine lost a part of it's market share to Port. The Canarian wine industry was further damaged by the grape blight of 1853. Many vinyards were transferred into cochineal plantations (a dye).
