Madeira 1880-1918

According to a census of 1891, Madeira had 132,223 inhabitants. Around the turn of the century, the BANANA was introduced as an additional crop. In 1901, Madeira was granted a limited degree of autonomy.
In 1897 electricity was introduced on Madeira.
Stamps were issued for Madeira 1868-1898; for 1892-1905 stamps with the inscription Funchal were issued. From 1905 onward, stamps of the Acores were used in Madeira.
