Western Samoa Independent, since 1962



In 1962 Western Samoa declared independence, as a constitutional monarchy (Queen Elizabeth head of state) and a member of the Commonwealth. In 1977 the country was renamed into SAMOA.
UNIVERSAL SUFFRAGE was introduced in 1991.
