History and Administrative Division .
Russian control over the area was established in 1557, then centered on Ufa, from 1735 onmward on the newly founded
frontier garrison city of Orenburg. From the 18th century onward, Orenburg was seat of a Gubernia. In 1865,
Ufa Gubernia was carved out of Orenburg Gubernia. Orenburg Gubernia was composed of 5 districts (uyezds) : Orenburg, Orsk, Troitsk, Chelyabinsk and Verkhne Uralsk. |
