Greenland, 1890-1918

Greenland continued to be administered by the ROYAL GREENLAND TRADING COMPANY. The island had been given separate superintendentships in 1857. and in 1908 two Greenlandic county councils were established, one for the north and one for the south. The administration was entirely in the hands of the Danes. In 1912 the Danish government took over from the Royal Greenland Trading Company.
Greenland's main exports at the turn of the century were fur (of polar bears, seals, polar foxes), duck feathers, minerals.
