The Sultanate of Banjarmasin was established in 1526. It became a V.O.C. protectorate in 1787. Annexed by the Dutch East Indies after the Banjarmasin War in 1860. The territory of the former Sultanate of Banjarmasin in 1949 was integrated in the Republic of Indonesia.
