In 1045, the last ruler of Kahuripan (itself a short-lived successor of the Kingdom of Mataram) divided his kingdom between his two sons, one of whom got Kediri, the other Janggala. For the late 11th century there are no sources; by the early 12th century, Kediri has absorbed Janggala and is in control of most of Java. Kediri was an Indianized kingdom, with both Hinduism and Buddhism having been popular religions. The capital Kediri was located in eastern Java. The Kingdom of Kediri lasted from 1045 to 1222, when it was conquered by Singhasari
