The Sultanate of Selangor was established in 1740. Selangor as a port is mentioned in sources from the 18th century onward.
In 1874 Selangor became a British protectorate; in 1895 it joined the Federated Malay States; after the years of Japanese
occupation 1942-1945 in 1946 Selangor joined the Federation of Malaya (1946-1963), in 1963
Malaysia. The capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, is located on historical
