Kim, Gi Yoon is interested in studying medicine and developed an interest in the history of Korean labour
migrants to Germany, nurses being a prominent group among these. As one book she found had all the
answers on the history of the Korean nurses in Germany, she focussed her paper on the history of Korean miners.
The scope of the paper is that of a monthly assignment in history class. Kim, Gi Yoon's paper is exclusively
based on Korean language sources, as she can not read German. As the topic is not covered in English
language publications, I decided to have her paper posted here.
The paper is suited to serve as a foundation for a college seminar discussion on Korean labour migration
after the Korean War.
