November 25th 2009 . go to LHK's Log

I need to repeat points (1) and (4) of my last comment : you seem not to know where is Flanders, and you seem to think that articles in the English language are optional.
(2) not for the first time : merge multiple note entr ies (37)(38)(39) into one.
(3) Göring; if spelled Goering in primary source, the first time you quote it, footnote.
(4) Boompies correctly spelled Boompjes; footnote
(5) divide text in subchapters. This is the most important point in this comment

(1) German assault on Flanders and France
The German assault on (the Netherlands, Belgium and France. Flanders is a region (i.e. no government [in 1940], no army), part of Belgium.
(2) When discussing Rotterdam : note - cross link to Hong Kong's paper
(3) Battle of the Hague
Wikipedia disrespectful of Dutch culture. If Den Haag has to be translated, the article is part of the name and must be capitalized. Better : Battle of Den Haag, with note giving explanation and reference.
(4) Watch your grammar. However, during the World War I, only aircraft which was capable of carrying out such operation was Zeppelin,
World War I is a name, so NO article (cases such as Den Haag are an exception; the original name was 's-Gravenshage; Haag normally is not a name; when an anti-feudal revolution skipped the Count part of the name, the article was needed to turn a noun into a name). But you omit articles where they are needed : the only aircraft, such an operation, the Zeppelin.
When you are done, proofread your entire paper for articles.
(5) it was reported that people were accused just because they used Dutch with German accent.
Watch Soldaat van Oranje
(6) When discussing Communist 5th column action, perhaps you want to explain that in 1937 the Communist Party of France felt betrayed by the refusal of their partners in government to send French forces to aid the Republicans in Spain's Civil War. This experience may have moved many to give up on democracy and again hope for a revolution.

(1) I have the impression that last time (September 7th) you sent me an old table of contents, not the upgraded one. Because what was Chapter 3 last time is chapter 4 this time.
(2) o'clock, not 'o clock.
(3) harsh reproach from international society.(2)(3) Regardless,
Merge notes 2, 3 into one. Poor style to have two notes immediately following.
(4) no notes after direct quotations. I want one in every case.

October 1st 2009 . go to LHK's Log

(1) Sloppy references. My advice : complete them now, then you don't have to worry about them later.
(2) Blitzkrieg-Legende, Karl-Heinz Frieser
If you give me this reference, I MUST conclude that you use the original German-language edition and not any translation. So next ime we talk in German, as you obviously can read he language.

(1) For your attention : the articles you now list as Times of London articles in earlier postings were listed under the heading NYT Articles (= New York Times). You need to double-check your file and my posting !.
(2) Berlin Factories Bombed in Air Raid, Paris Reports
Listed under the heading : German Sources. ???
(3) German disguised paratroopers
Under this heading you list exclusively Times of London articles. Does that mean there are none in the NYT ?
(4) I like the present list better than earlier ones, because you list more articles.
I would like you explain your search method and selction criteria. Are these articles all what you could find, or did you sort certain articles out ?

September 7th 2009 . go to LHK's Log

again I can not detect any change over the last draft.

September 7th 2009 . go to LHK's Log

Finally I found the part where you added something.
Next time either mark the changes somehow (colour ?) or send me only the parts which contain change, in order not to confuse me and save double work.
I have a bit of a problem with the low number of sources (newspaper articles) on the topics you cover. You need to know that English and French propaganda tried to influence newspapers in neutral countries (Italy, Spain, the U.S.), a factor which may have influenced the newspapers in not reporting in a neutral spirit. A small number of articles thus provides a risky base for your thesis.
Your text is supposed to use the NYT as primary, main source. But you do quote "The Times" articles. In order to avoid confusion, better refer to the latter as "The Times of London". Where you refer to it, you fail to give specific information - the day of publication. Also : did you directly use the Times of London ? I assume, you found it quoted somewhere; in this case you refer to it as follows : The Times of London, of the 37th of 13th of 2009, quoted after (author, year, page).

September 7th 2009 . go to LHK's Log

In your email you mention that you added more articles. This list is precisely the one you posted earlier, and you failed to sort the artricles in chronological order (that is, under the categories you listed), as I requested. So I get the impression : you sent me the old file, not the revised one.

September 7th 2009 . go to LHK's Log

You did not complete the entries on the first draft and did not add the publications you have been given access to since. Your text does not contain any numbers for footnotes, despite numerous direct quotes appearing. It is easier to give these notes immediately, than to try add them after the entire paper was written.
Keep in mind, if you quote books, you have to give the specific page number(s) you refer to. So add the notes now and when you write the next chapter, do so complete with notes. The numbers may change ? Fine, but that will be a cosmetic change. You could start with number one for every chapter, and once the paper is written, introduce one coherent numbering system.

July 5th 2009 . go to LHK's Log

contents okay. But I highly recommend that you write chapters complete with notes. After you wrote a 50 page paper to work in 100 notes is a pain; students have given up on research papers at that stage.

July 5th 2009 . go to LHK's Log

Looks okay, but covers a wider range than we originally discussed.
The title seems somewhat strange to me - how do you manipulate terror ?

July 5th 2009 . go to LHK's Log

okay
I had to organize the entries in chronological order.

July 5th 2009 . go to LHK's Log

sloppy; please give complete references.
"Eyewitness to History" missing (does Hong Kong still have it ?
