Types of History Research Papers

(I)     Research based on Primary Sources

Research with the object to establish a 'new' result, a judgment of high validity as it is based on primary sources. A number of history research papers written at KMLA qualify for this category :

Hong, Sang Bin, How Ideology Influenced History Textbooks in Nazi Germany and in the German Democratic Republic (2005), based on German-language sources
Hong, Ja Bin. J.G.A. Galletti's Lehrbuch für den Schulunterricht in der Geschichtskunde - a German history school textbook printed in 1810 (2005), based on German-language sources
Han, Yuna, An Inside Perspective. Cinematic Representation of the Soviet Society during the Thaw (2005)
Shin, Hijung, Foreign Perspectives on Joseon Religion and Women 1876-1905 (2006)
Choi, Eun Sol, The History of Kazakhstan as Reflected in the New York Times, 1920-1969 (2007)
Kim, Young Min, The South Vietnamese Economy during the Vietnam War, 1954-1975 (2007)
Kim, Kyun, The Image of Cesare Borgia in Historiography (2007)

(II)     Research based on a combination of Primary and Secondary Sources

Koo, Hyemin, Evolution of Film Propaganda Throughout World War II. How was the cinema regulated and/or freely used to affect the people's attitudes toward the war ? (2006)
Roh, Yong Ho The Rise of the Ruhr Area, Germany's Industrial Heartland, in the 19th Century (2007)

(III)     Research based on Secondary Sources

(IIIa)     A New Interpretation Based on a Compilation of What is Written on the Topic

Park, Hyeongsu, Mithraism in the Roman Empire (2006)
Yang, Eunmo, Modernization of Nepal under the Shah Dynasty, 1951-1991 (2007)
Yea, Chang Whan, The Reception of Darwinism and the Concept of Evolution by the Religious Community in the English-Speaking World, 1859-1930 (2007)
Han, Changhee, The Greek Civil War (2007)

Papers like these either (1) present what other scholars have published in a wide range of publications on a complex issue to a readership, which does not have the time, energy and perhaps know-how how to do be themselves, or/and (2) look at a topic which has already widely been covered in literature from a different, original perspective.

(IIIb)     A New Interpretation in English Based on a Compilation of What is Written on the Topic in Korean etc.

Baik, Seungmin, History of the Sakhalin Koreans (2007)

Such papers open up knowledge of what is published in Korean on a topic to a readership of English-readers.

(IIIc)     A New Interpretation based on a Comparison

Suh, Jungkyu, An Analysis of the U.S. Diplomacy in the Era of President Nixon's Detente. A Case Study of Chile and South Korea (2005)
Chung, Purun, Goa and East Timor. A comparison of the history of two former Portuguese colonies (2005)

(IIId)     A New Interpretation based on an Original Perspective

Kim, Shin, Early Years of the Little Ice Age in Northern Europe, 1300-1500 (2007)
Woo, Na Young, A Historical Summary of Berlin's Architectural Controversy (2007)

Such comparison-based studies are usually original and independent, as the literature they are based upon usually deals with objects a and b, but not with a comparison of a and b.
