The name "Regio" stands for the region on the Rhine between Germany, France
and Switzerland. It goes back to the three mountains, each of them called "Belchen"- one in Germany, one in France and one in Switzerland. It is known that in ancient times these three mountains played an important part in the religious life of the Celts. Geographically, the "Regio" expands from the Rhine bend in the south to the "Ortenau" in the north. The flag of the "Regio" shows the triangular form of this region with the Rhine flowing in between on the background of the European flag. |
