| Our school has 310 pupils and 28 teachers, male and female. It is situated in the eastern part of Freiburg. Freiburg is quite close to Switzerland and France. In this so-called "triangle of countries", Switzerland is 60 km and France only 30 km away. This multinational region has been working together for many years, especially in the fields of oeconomy and cultural activities. Freiburg has got 200 000 inhabitants, and there are 6 "Realschulen" ( a typ of Secondary Modern School ) altogether. Emil-Thoma-School is one of the smallest. As typical for all "Realschulen" it leads up to the so-called "Mittlere Reife", which is comparable to OLevel after six years of teaching. Something very special for our school is our "International Class" for foreign students, which had been introduced in 1988/89. |
In the whole of Baden-Württemberg there are only three of this type of
special classes, in which foreign students are helped in a special way.
On 26th. April 1995 the staff of our school has defined the profile of
"Emil-Thoma-Realschule" more precisely:
The picture of three columns was developed, which became the basis of all
educational work: The first column "Everyday's work", the second column "Communication" between all members of school ( collegues and pupils and their parents ), third column "Innovation" , e.g. new teaching methods and technics. Trying to find its own educational profile, the "Emil-Thoma-Realschule" follows the old tradition of a permanent inner-school-reform, which has been discussed in Baden-Württemberg for quite a while now. |
