Within the Holy Roman Empire, the Bavarian Circle was established in 1500/1512. It included the following members :
Hochstift Salzburg, Hochstift Passau,
Hochstift Freising, Hochstift Regensburg, Prince-abbey of Berchtesgaden,
St. Emmeram in Regensburg, Niedermünster in Regensburg, Obermünster in Regensburg,
Duchy (Electorate since 1623/1628) of Bavaria, Duchy of Pfalz-Neuburg, Duchy of Pfalz-Sulzbach,
County of Störnstein, County of Leuchtenberg,
County of Ortenburg, County of (Hohen)Waldeck, County of Breitenegg, Barony Ehrenfels, Barony Sulzbürg-Pyrbaum,
Free Imperial Citry of Regensburg. In 1521/1532 also Stift Chiemsee and Abbey Rott on the Inn and Waldsassen were listed as members, but they lost their immediate status; Hohenwaldeck joined in 1559, Breitenegg and Störnberg in the middle of the 17th century. The Duchy/Electorate of Bavaria managed over time to acquire a number of the secular votes in the Bavarian Circle, most notably when Bavaria, Pfalz-Neuburg and Pfalz-Sulzbach were united under one Duke Elector in the later 18th century. |
