India Assam

The territory of the Naga tribes was annexed by Burma in 1816. Following the First Anglo-Burmese War, Burma had to give up her claim over the Naga Hills (as the territory is referred to in British sources of the time). However, the area remained outside of the contyrol of the E.I.C. / British India (Bengal Presidency). In 1879-1880 British forces launched a punitive campaign into the Naga Hills. By 1892 British administration over the area was established.
Until 1957, Nagaland formed part of Assam. From 1957 to 1963 it was Union Territory, since 1963 Nagaland is a state of its own within the Republic of India.
