New Caledonia Fiji
First posted on July 9th 2002, last revised on October 24th 2010





First European contact with Wallis and Futuna in the 16th century; arrival of French missionaries 1837, French protectorate established 1887-1888. Annexed by France in 1917 (now colony). In 1961 French overseas territory.
