History and Administrative Division . Kalinin Oblast was established in 1935, carved out of the Western Krai and Leningrad Oblast. In 1944 Pskov and Novgorod Oblast were created, their territory carved out of Leningrad and Kalinin Oblast. In 1990 renamed Tver Oblast.
