Pegu



State located in the Irawaddy delta. Inhabited by the MON, capital PEGU, dominant religion BUDDHISM. After the Mon raided neighbouring Ava/Burma, in 1758 Pegu was conquered by a Burmese general, Ayungpaya who established the new Burmese state, founding the capital of his new KONBAUNG DYNASTY at RANGOON on Pegu soil.
