Kim, Youngmin is a student focussing on the natural sciences, with a keen interest in history and economics.
For his research paper he had about a year. The result is concise (printed out : 11 pages single space),
based mainly on primary sources (statistical data; his reference list has 15 positions), contains a number of
diagrams composed by Kim, Youngmin.
Kim, Youngmin's conclusion - despite 20 years of war, the South Vietnamese economy was growing in
quality and quantity - is surprising as popular perception is dominated by images of brutality, an escalating
war, the massive usage of defoliants etc.
By limiting his use of secondary sources, Kim, Youngmin maintained a clear focus. The paper compares
to a third year college seminar presentation, providing a solid base for an academic discussion on the topic.
