Belize, 1821-1884

In 1884, Belize was administrately separated from Jamaica, now the colony of BRITISH HONDURAS, capital Belize. The border dispute with Guatemala continued.
The economy depended mainly on logging and sugar plantations. The country experienced the immigration of Indios, who fled oppression in their native Guatemala.
As a British colony, the country was drawn into World War I in August 1918.
