Malta 1949-1964

Self Government had been reintroduced in 1947. Negotiations were held which were supposed to prepare an integration of Malta into the United Kingdom. These failed in 1959, and the constitution was suspended. In 1964 Malta became independent, as a member of the British Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth remaining Queen of Malta.
